Juefa massage, also known as fist back rubbing, is a traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) technique that involves using the back of the fists to perform a rubbing motion along the Bladder Meridian on both sides of the spine. This method is designed to harmonize yin and yang, promote the flow of qi and blood, and regulate the functions of internal organs.
To perform Juefa massage, the practitioner makes a loose fist and uses the dorsal side (back of the hand) to rub firmly but gently along the Bladder Meridian. The Bladder Meridian runs parallel to the spine, approximately two finger-widths from the midline. The rubbing motion should be rhythmic and continuous, moving from the upper back down to the lower back. Repeat for 5-10 minutes or until the area feels warm and relaxed.
Juefa massage is particularly effective for conditions such as chest tightness, asthma, epigastric pain, and poor digestion. It is a gentle yet powerful technique that can be incorporated into daily self-care routines or used by TCM practitioners as part of a broader treatment plan.
