Twisting manipulation, known as Lüèfǎ in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), is a specialized manual therapy technique designed to restore joint mobility and alleviate stiffness. By applying controlled rotational force to the affected joint, this method helps to lubricate the joint surfaces, relax surrounding muscles, and promote the smooth flow of Qi and blood through the meridians.

In this technique, the practitioner grasps both ends of the patient's joint—such as the wrist, elbow, knee, or lumbar spine—and gently twists them in opposite directions. The movement is repeated several times on each side, ensuring that the joint is taken through its natural range of motion without force or discomfort. Lüèfǎ is commonly used for conditions like sprains, strains, joint stiffness, and lumbar rigidity.

Twisting manipulation is particularly beneficial for:

Lüèfǎ should only be performed by a qualified TCM practitioner. It is not recommended for acute fractures, severe inflammation, or hypermobile joints. Always consult a professional before attempting any manual therapy.
